John Brookes – Garden Designer

We talk with Gwendolyn van Paasschen about the publication of How to Design a Garden – a compilation of 50 lectures, articles, and other writings by the late John Brookes. Published by Pimpernel Press and with a preface by The Director of Garden Design at Inchbald, Andrew Duff, it is a good companion to any of his best design books but can also stand alone. This collection reflects on how broadly John thought about design and, especially, how deeply he felt about protecting the environment, conservation, and the preservation of place – well ahead of his time.
