| PHS is one of the world’s oldest horticultural societies and renowned globally for its putting on of America’s premier garden show, the Philadelphia Flower Show. However it is primarily a social action organisation that mobilises gardeners to improve the lives of the citizens of the city and state: managing parks, encouraging food-growing programmes, working with ex-prisoners, taking over waste ground.
